Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
While all our departments are an essential part of our plans to provide essential healthcare, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a lot closer to our heart for a lot of reasons. This is where our journey began 37 years ago as a small clinic offering consultation for all forms of gynaecological and maternity care cases. As a result of her dedication towards medical service, Dr. Nirmala Madhavan is a household name when it comes to maternity care.
Medical Services Offered
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provides medical services that cover everything that a woman undergoes from adolescence to her menopause. The department also offers its services for women who are unable to conceive naturally due to several conditions.
Puberty is an important phase as the body and psychology both undergo a lot of changes. While most of this happens naturally without us even realising, some medical conditions may affect your child’s health. Our Gynecologists are at your service for all issues related to puberty.
If you have been having irregular periods or experiencing extreme cramping, heavy bleeding or any other form of discomfort during mensturation, you may be experiencing a menstrual cycle disorder. This also includes psychological and behavioural changes.
Perimenopause, also known as menopause transition takes place over several years in advance of the menopause. During perimenopause the ovaries gradually rebalance their oestrogen and progesterone production in preparation for the menopause and the final cessation of periods. Women may feel undesired side effects which could be physical or psychological as well. Our Experts are at your assistance for this important phase of your life.
Fibroid Uterus is a condition when benign tumours develop in the uterus (womb). Most women with Uterine Fibroids show no symptoms but fibroids can cause a number of symptoms depending on their size, location within the uterus, and how close they are to adjacent pelvic organs. These are most commonly abnormal bleeding, pain and pressure. Uterine fibroids are diagnosed by pelvic exam and by ultrasound. If treatment for uterine fibroids is required, both surgical and medical treatment options are available.
PCOD or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) occurs not just in women, but in girls as young as 11! PCOD is a major cause for infertility. Polycystic ovaries are generally larger in size and denser than the normal ovaries. It usually occurs when the sex hormones go out of balance and the body starts producing more male hormones resulting in the onset of several symptoms mentioned below.
Endometriosis is the abnormal growth of cells (endometrial cells) similar to those that form the inside of the uterus, but in a location outside of the uterus. Endometriosis is most commonly found on other organs of the pelvis. Most women with endometriosis have no symptoms. However, when women do experience signs and symptoms of endometriosis they may include:
Screening tests offer the best chance to have cervical cancer found early when successful treatment is likely. Screening can also actually prevent most cervical cancers by finding abnormal cervical cell changes (pre-cancers) so that they can be treated before they have a chance to turn into a cervical cancer.
